When he was finally able to pull out his full power and completely free himself from the shadow of Paragus's control, his hair and aura became the more traditional yellow (in Japanese, Broly states at the end of movie 8 that he's finally able to use his full power it's the dub that changed it to the "it won't be enough to kill me" line). In the beginning, his Legendary state was green because of the lingering aftereffects of Paragus's control (the same reason why he was the Original Super Saiyan Blue, aka his restrained Super Saiyan's off-color aura and hair). I can also parallel Broly's increasing verdancy with his writing. Because you know, he cried for like 3 hours. Thus, after movie 10, they gave up entirely and just said "He hates Goku because Goku cried as a baby" and that's been the meme ever since. Even when Goku was a baby, his ki reacted with Broly's, which is what upset him, but the attempted murder and 30 years of living under a cold and megalomaniacal father was a different sort of trauma entirely. The problem was that the Toei writers did a pisspoor job conveying that, despite the fact they did try. It wasn't until he came across Goku and their kis reacted that he was able to completely lose control. Before then, Broly was still uncontrollable, but that was more to do with his latent mental illness and PTSD as well as Saiyan aggression. That only came about because Goku defeated him in such a traumatic way.
It's also why Broly was so cognizant while in his legendary state whereas afterwards, he's always been portrayed as a mixture of extreme schizophrenia, mental retardation, and Michael Myers-tier psychopathy where behind those eyes there was only blackness and the void of all emotion. It wasn't Goku he was reacting to- it was his ki, which reacted to his own uncontrollable ki negatively and overexcited him. The dub seemed to double-down on the whole "Broly hates Goku because he cried a lot as a baby" thing rather than "Broly's utterly uncontrollable Saiyan instincts are excited by Goku's overwhelming ki" angle that the writers actually went for.Īctually, the reason that I heard that makes most sense is that, up until movie 8 happened, Broly didn't give one shit about Goku/Kakarot. The voice actors could have nailed it, and what's more the whole "Broly's assy backstory" would not be as poorly received since it would likely be much more properly understood why he was reacting to Goku the way he was.
